Dr Musab Alamri

Dr Musab Alamri is a Saudi film director, consultant, researcher, and Assistant Professor of Film at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University. His academic and professional practice bridges critical research, film production, and cultural policy, with a focus on the development of Saudi Arabia’s film industry in the context of Vision 2030.

Alamri earned his PhD in Film and Television Studies from the University of Nottingham, where he completed the first doctoral thesis to comprehensively examine the Saudi film industry, titled “The Development of the Film Industry in Saudi Arabia (2005–2020).” He also holds an MFA in Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles and a BA in Radio and Television from Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University.

As a researcher, Alamri’s work explores themes such as media regulation, cultural policy, national cinema, and audience behavior. His recent publications address issues of sustainability in filmmaking, audience perceptions post-cinema ban, and the evolving role of women in Saudi cinema. He is the author of two books: Film Directing: Your Steps Towards Directing a Film Based on the Latest Practices (2024) and Film Production in the Arabian Gulf: The Industry and Culture (2020, co-authored).

As a consultant, Alamri has played a strategic role in cultural development programs across Saudi Arabia, working closely with the Ministry of Culture and the Saudi Film Commission. He co-founded the first university programs in film production and performing arts in Saudi public universities, contributing to curriculum design, academic accreditation, and national talent development.

A strong advocate for film culture and education, Alamri frequently serves as a jury member at national and regional film festivals, and presents regularly at international academic conferences. His work is committed to shaping the institutional and creative future of cinema in Saudi Arabia through research, education, and professional practice.
